Medellín: the city of eternal spring

Welcome to Medellín, the City of Eternal Spring, where the weather is as warm as the locals’ hospitality. Medellín has transformed from a troubled past into one of Colombia’s most innovative cities. Start your journey by taking a ride on the Metrocable, which offers stunning views of the city and connects you to the colorful neighborhood of Comuna 13. Once a no-go zone, Comuna 13 is now a symbol of Medellín’s resilience, with vibrant street art that tells the story of its transformation. Don’t miss the Botero Plaza, where the iconic, larger-than-life sculptures by artist Fernando Botero make for a unique photo opportunity. For a taste of the local nightlife, head to El Poblado, where you’ll find lively bars, cafes, and restaurants serving up traditional Colombian fare.

Guatapé: The town of zócales 

From Medellín, take a scenic bus ride to Guatapé, one of Colombia’s most picturesque towns. Known for its vividly painted houses adorned with intricate zócalos (bas-relief carvings), Guatapé is a feast for the eyes. Spend the day exploring the colorful streets, where every corner offers a new visual delight. The highlight of your visit will undoubtedly be the climb up El Peñol, a massive granite rock that towers over the landscape. After ascending the 740 steps to the top, you’ll be rewarded with panoramic views of the surrounding lakes and islands—a sight that is well worth the climb. Relax by the waterfront and enjoy a boat ride on the lake before heading back to town to savor some local delicacies like arepas and bandeja paisa.

Salento: heart of the coffee region

Next, we head to Salento, a charming town nestled in the heart of Colombia’s coffee region. Salento is your gateway to the Cocora Valley, home to the towering wax palms that are Colombia’s national tree. Take a jeep ride to the valley and embark on a hike through lush landscapes that seem straight out of a fairy tale. The sight of the sky-high wax palms rising from the misty valley floor is something you’ll never forget. After your hike, visit a local coffee farm to learn about the coffee-making process and sample some of the best brews in the world. Back in Salento, explore the town’s colorful streets and artisan shops, and enjoy a traditional meal at one of the local restaurants.

bogotá: Colombia's vibrant capital

From the tranquility of Salento, we travel to Bogotá, Colombia’s bustling capital. Bogotá is a city of contrasts, where colonial architecture meets modern skyscrapers, and history blends with contemporary culture. Start your exploration in La Candelaria, the historic heart of the city, where you’ll find colorful colonial buildings, cobblestone streets, and important landmarks like Plaza Bolívar. Don’t miss the Gold Museum, which houses the world’s largest collection of pre-Hispanic gold artifacts. For art lovers, the Botero Museum offers a fantastic collection of works by Colombia’s most famous artist, as well as pieces by Picasso, Dalí, and more. Minca: A jungle retreat

After the urban buzz of Bogotá, it’s time to reconnect with nature in Minca, a tranquil village in the Sierra Nevada mountains. Fly to the coastal city of Santa Marta and take a bus up into the hills to reach Minca, a paradise for nature lovers. Here, you can hike through lush jungle trails, swim in natural waterfalls, and enjoy birdwatching in one of the most biodiverse regions in the world. Minca is also known for its coffee farms, so be sure to visit one for a tour and a tasting. Next, we journey to Tayrona National Park, one of Colombia’s most beautiful natural reserves. Take a bus from Minca to the park’s entrance, where you’ll begin your adventure into this coastal paradise. Tayrona is where the jungle meets the sea, with pristine beaches framed by dense tropical forest. Hike through the park’s trails to discover hidden coves, crystal-clear waters, and ancient ruins of the Tayrona people. From the jungles of Tayrona, we head to Cartagena, one of Colombia’s most enchanting cities. Take a bus along the coast to reach this colonial gem, where history and Caribbean culture blend seamlessly. Explore the walled city, a UNESCO World Heritage site, where narrow streets are lined with colorful colonial buildings, bougainvillea-covered balconies, and lively plazas. Visit the historic Castillo San Felipe de Barajas, a fortress that once defended the city from pirates, and take a sunset stroll along the city’s ancient walls. Cartagena is also known for its vibrant nightlife, with salsa clubs, rooftop bars, and street musicians filling the air with music. Our journey concludes with a bus ride to Popayán, known as the White City for its beautifully preserved colonial architecture. Popayán is one of Colombia’s most historic cities, with a rich cultural heritage and a reputation as a center of learning. Wander through the city’s streets, where whitewashed buildings and ornate churches transport you back in time. Visit the Iglesia de San Francisco, the city’s oldest church, and the Puente del Humilladero, a historic bridge offering lovely views of the city. Popayán is also famous for its Holy Week processions, one of the most important in Latin America. As you explore, don’t forget to try some of the local delicacies, like empanadas de pipián or tamales de pipián, a reflection of the region’s unique culinary traditions.
