Guatapé: The town of zócales
From MedellĂn, take a scenic bus ride to GuatapĂ©, one of Colombia’s most picturesque towns. Known for its vividly painted houses adorned with intricate zĂłcalos (bas-relief carvings), GuatapĂ© is a feast for the eyes. Spend the day exploring the colorful streets, where every corner offers a new visual delight. The highlight of your visit will undoubtedly be the climb up El Peñol, a massive granite rock that towers over the landscape. After ascending the 740 steps to the top, you’ll be rewarded with panoramic views of the surrounding lakes and islands—a sight that is well worth the climb. Next, we head to Salento, a charming town nestled in the heart of Colombia’s coffee region. Salento is your gateway to the Cocora Valley, home to the towering wax palms that are Colombia’s national tree. Take a jeep ride to the valley and embark on a hike through lush landscapes that seem straight out of a fairy tale. The sight of the sky-high wax palms rising from the misty valley floor is something you’ll never forget. After your hike, visit a local coffee farm to learn about the coffee-making process and sample some of the best brews in the world. popayán: the white city
Our journey concludes with a bus ride to Popayán, known as the White City for its beautifully preserved colonial architecture. Popayán is one of Colombia’s most historic cities, with a rich cultural heritage and a reputation as a center of learning.
